Functional Fitness

Why is functional movement important? For us, we wish we would have incorporated more functional training at an earlier age. That said, it is never too late and has made the biggest difference in our health, performance, and recovery. Our top two reasons to train in a functional manner are injury prevention in our everyday chores and hobbies as well as enhanced performance and longevity. It is wild how many seemingly “fit” people get injured doing simple movements like carrying a heavy object out of a truck or quickly moving to avoid a collision.

The seven basic movements of the body are pull, push, squat, lunge, hinge, rotate, and gait. By taking these movements and training several muscle groups at the same time, you can help your body function better as a whole. It can also be a lot of fun. The great news is that you can do this type of training almost anywhere and can use your environment as your gym. Whether with us or in your own playground we encourage you to keep part of your training focus on functionality!

We gather on M/T/Th at 6:00am and have a whole lot of fun while gaining strength, speed, endurance, agility, and overall functionality. Our goal with this class is to be better prepared to enjoy life, recreation, hobbies and do them all with vigor. Whether you are simply looking to lean out and improve your fitness or if you are training for an event or challenge, we can work with you on your goals. We use the inside and outside facilities depending on the time of year. Our favorite is working out to sunrise on the farm, but we still have a lot of fun indoors in the winter.

You can expect a combination of HIIT style workouts, lifting, plyometrics, and body movement and strategy. We do a combination of bodyweight drills as well as utilize tools both inside and outside sometimes including obstacles, weights, sandbags, kettlebells, sledgehammers, etc. As with all classes, feel free to join us for a free trial class to make sure it is a good fit, and let us know what questions you have.
